Ms. Sen's Skylarks have been eager to do a paper airplane e-slot since the beginning of the year. Finally , the day has come. We got to make all kinds of paper airplanes, with different kinds of wings and noses, out of different sizes and weights of paper, and we got to add things like paper clips or slits to see if they changed the way the planes flew. We also shared some flying tips with each other. Then we lined up and tested our planes on the flying strip. The flying strip was marked with foot measurements. Some of our planes flew further than 20 feet!
5...4...3...2...1...blast off!!! The Clements Cubs ventured out to explore our interest in space during e-slot today. Students used books, puzzles, games and information from "pebblego.com" to learn more about planets, the sun, moon and even black holes. Some children used their creative talents to make 3D pictures of the planets, drawings, posters, and even mobiles to show the order of the planets from the sun. Two students have even decided to partner up for next year's science fair to learn more about space!
On January 13th, Mr. Holmstrom (one of our 5th grade teachers) shared a play that he had written about Texas history with approximately 40 fourth graders. These fourth graders showed an interest in some aspect of theatre, acting, building sets, making props or costumes and theatrical make-up. This is the first meeting of eight weeks. During this time, Mr. Holmstrom explained how he researched, developed the script, and wrote songs to go along with the play. The students then read through the play and chose parts they would be interested in portraying. Next week, they will work on their character assignments or job responsibilities.
