To add to that excitement, we had some special visitors. Dr, Flores, Dr, Presley and Mrs. Gesch from our Central Administration came that morning to tour the Showcase.
Laurel Mountain was filled with energy and movement as the students set up their displays in the hallway around the office and library. They put on the final touches and got ready to greet our parents and visitors. Throughout that morning, each 2nd and 3rd grade student had the opportunity to be the docent for their enrichment cluster display. It was up to them to talk about the skills they learned, what they did during their eight enrichment cluster meetings and explain the significance of products and services they created.
As the students rotated in and out of their shifts, I had a few key observations. First of all, the kids were so proud of themselves and their work. The students became the experts by giving them the chance to educate others about what they learned. Second, we put the learning back in the hands of the students by having the "docent" format for our showcase. There were no teachers or facilitators at the display, it was all on the students. And they accepted this challenged and flourished.
Finally, the kids are passionate about their interests. It was hard to get around to all of the displays because the students just wanted to go on and on about their enrichment cluster. And who can blame them? When you are passionate about something, it becomes part of who you are and you want tell everyone about it. It made me so happy and proud to see our students so passionate about their interests and clusters. Creating passionate, productive, creative students is another way Laurel Mountain creates world-class talent.
